Top 5 Mistakes You're Making When Shampooing Your Natural Hair

We've been shampooing our hair since the dawn of time.
However, you could have been doing it incorrectly all this time.
It seems like a simple or straightforward task, but it's easy to mess it up.
Here are the top five mistakes you make when shampooing your hair:

1 - Using too much shampoo
It's important to use the right amount of shampoo for your scalp.
A general rule of thumb is to use a quarter-sized amount for short hair, a nickel-sized amount for medium-length hair, and a quarter-sized amount for long hair. When pumping the shampoo remember that it suds once water comes into contact with it so you don't need to go overboard on wash days.
So a little goes a long way so your shampoo will last much longer than you expect.

2 - Shampooing not too often
Washing your hair once every month may seem like a good idea, but it can actually be harmful to your hair.  As naturals we use a lot fo products from moisturisers, to leave-in conditioners, stylers and ever hair puddings. This can lead to major product build up if you are not cleansing frequently. In addition, your products won't work as effectively if you are applying it to dirty hair. You should be shampooing your hair every week or every 2 weeks the least.

3 - Using hot water
Never use hot water on your scalp and hair. The hot water can scorch the scalp. As well as, strip the hair of its natural oils which are needed to nourish your new growth. This will leave your hair feeling dry and prone to breakage.  leaving it dry and prone to breakage. Instead, try using lukewarm or cool water to shampoo your hair. Your hair and scalp will be thoroughly cleansed while preserving your natural oils and preventing damage.

4 - Scrubbing too hard
Scrubbing your hair too hard when shampooing can also lead to damage and breakage. It's important to be gentle when shampooing your hair and to use your fingertips to massage the scalp. Avoid using your nails or scrubbing too hard, as this can damage your hair and lead to breakage.

5 - Not rinsing thoroughly
Not rinsing your hair thoroughly after shampooing can leave behind residue.
If the residue remains it can lead to dryness, dullness, and other issues. Additionally, if the shampoo remains in your hair then following up with moisturizers and stylers will cause ineffective results. The best way to rinse your hair is my massaging your roots to life the product from off the scalp. As well as, using the praying hands method  along the hair shaft to squeeze the shampoo out. Then, just let the water run through your hair to ensure it's all gone.
