As we head into 2023, it's time to say goodbye to outdated hair rules and embrace the freedom and creativity that comes with natural hair. While there are certainly some guidelines to follow when caring for your hair, there are also many old-school rules that can be tossed aside for good. Here are some natural hair rules to not follow in 2023:
1 - Prepooing before cleansing
While it is true that some shampoos are formulated to strip your hair of it's natural oils, there are some that don't. So you don't need to apply an oil to your hair before you cleanse and condition your hair. There are brands dedicated to natural hair that are formulating products that will cleanse your scalp and hair without leaving it dry, stiffy or breaking. With our Tailored Beauty Coconut Creme Shampoo, it will cleanse and strengthen the hair as it is infused with coconut oil. Additionally, your hair will be moisturised as it is formulated with aloe vera juice to restore the hair's natural PH. And more importantly it is free from parabens and sulfates as it is organically made.
2 - Avoid heat styling at all costs:
Heat will damage your hair if you are using it improperly. If you are applying heat to your hair excessively by doing it every wash day then that is a problem. Additionally, if you are not adding heat protectant to your hair before applying heat, then your hair will suffer. Once used properly, heat doesn't have to be completely off-limits. Do remember to apply heat sparingly to your hair and use heat protectant always!
3 - Stick to protective styles for growth:
While protective styles can certainly help minimize breakage and promote hair growth, they're not the only way to achieve healthy hair. You must focus on keeping your curls hydrated so it is moisturized and nourished. With this, you're able to experiment with different styles to see what works for you. Additionally, retain as much length as possible.
4 - Avoid a 10-step wash day routine:
No one no longer has time to spend 6 hours for wash day. We have other things to do, people to take care off, and goals to work on. We believe that you shouldn't be spending all day to cleanse, condition, moisturize and style your hair. And you don't need to use 3 different products that are literally providing your hair with the same function. Look at your routine and remove what doesn't work for you.
NOTE: Depending on the length of hair, your time will vary however you shouldn't spend all day on it.
By breaking free from these outdated natural hair rules, you can create a hair care routine that works best for you and your unique hair type. Embrace the freedom and creativity that comes with natural hair, and let your locks shine in 2023 and beyond!
