How To Maintain Your Natural Hair While Protective STyling

Don't we all love a good protective style?

We don't have to comb our natural hair for an extended period of time.
Therefore, there is more time on wash days to spend doing something else.
In addition, we get to act, look, and feel different from our new hairstyle.
Although it is a break from maintaining our natural hair, doesn't mean we should neglect it altogether. We should still be caring for our mane while it is safely tucked under our style.

Here are 4 ways to maintain your natural hair while protective styling:

1. Oil Your Scalp - Oiling your scalp is key to keep the scalp healthy during this time. The oil will provide the scalp with minerals needed to keep it nourished. Therefore, keeping your hair growing long and strong. Usually, after removing your protective style, you will have a lot of new growth to care for.

Recommended product for oiling your scalp is our Tailored Beauty Grow Thick Oil. It contains a variety of key oils that will not only promote hair growth but soothe an itchy scalp, fights fungus, moisturizer, and strengthens your hair.
Apply a little to your scalp daily and lightly massage it in.

2. Moisturize Your Hair - Regardless of the protective style that you have in, you have to moisturize your natural hair. It doesn't have to be as elaborate as the LOC method. It can be a simple spritz of your favorite moisturizer to your braids on a weekly basis. However, one common rule is that you don't want to over-moisturize so that the protective style becomes weighed down with product or product festering in between the crevices.

The recommended product is our TAilored Beauty Moisturising Mist. It is in a spray form so no need to get your hands covered with moisturizer especially if you're on the go. In addition, the nozzle allows for the moisture to be evenly spread along the protective style. It is packed with humectants that your hair will love while it is being hidden under your braids.

3. Lay Your Edges - A lot of naturals may think that this is not key, but depending on your protective style it just might be. For example, if you are wearing braids for over 3 weeks the roots will become frizzy, fuzzy, and have a lot of new growth. Why not use your edge control to tame your hair? The edge control will keep the frizz at bay to make your braids look "fresh".

It will only maintain the health of your natural hair if the edge control contains natural ingredients like our Tailored Beauty Jamaican Black Castor Oil Edge Control. This edge control contains JBCO which everyone knows promotes hair growth, healthy scalp, and strong hair.

4. Oil Your Ends - And last but not least is to oil the ends of your protective style. This step may not be necessary if your natural hair is short. However, if it is long and is only 4 inches away from the ends of the braids or twists, you should do it. Oiling the ends of your braid will maintain the natural shine of your braids. As well as, the minerals from the oil will transfer the hair ends and work its magic. The oil may hydrate, repair split ends, strengthen as well as maintain the natural sheen of your natural hair.

And our recommended product is our TAilored Beauty Lustrous Hair Remedy Serum. Similarly to our grow thick oil it contains a blend of herbal oils that will nourish your hair. The serum is a lightweight oil that makes it perfect to not weigh down your hair.
