Autumn Hair Trends

As our temperatures start getting cooler, it’s time to look at the trends we’re seeing for autumn hairstyles.

Fall is continuing this years’ love affair for sexy sisters with short hair. We’ve got crops, shaven styles, bobs, pixies and a new twist on the lob – now filled out with box braids! And color – whether it’s all over or just some edgy new highlights – adds some dazzle to your daily routine.

Before we jump into the fun variations you can opt for, let’s talk about the number one thing you need to worry most about this season - dry, brittle and damaged hair.

It’s Time for a Trim

Now that we’re seeing less of the sun, it’s time to take care of the most visible damage. A quick trim that gets rid of split and brittle ends is one of the best things you can do for your hair this season.

Some recommend getting an end trim every six to eight weeks, but that’s not always necessary. You know your hair better than anyone else, just take care of the trim when you start seeing the need for it.

Condition, Condition, Condition

I know you’ve heard it before, but deep conditioning is an important aspect for any hair care regimen. And this time of year, it can’t be emphasized enough.

Of course, having clean hair is extremely important, but as helpful as shampooing is, it also strips your hair of its natural oils, leaving hair dry and brittle. We recommend our Coconut Creme Shampoo that cleans and moisturizes without stripping.

Moisturizing deep conditioners assist in combatting this issue. Adding a deep conditioner to your haircare regimen may add a few more minutes to your routine, but believe me, it’s worth it.

Seal it up, Baby!

You can’t avoid the cold weather’s drying effects on your hair, but you can combat it and still keep your hair looking sleek and natural.

Once your hair is wet, you’ll want to add a moisturizer, then using an oil or better yet, our all natural Everything Butter to seal in the moisture.

Hair to Stay

So you’ve got your hair prepared for fall, how do you wear it?

As we mentioned, short do’s are totally in and with the wonderful alternatives we’re seeing in our celebrity sisters, there are a lot of great options that can shave time off your morning routine and still highlight your natural look and textures.

Glossy, pushed-back curls over a soft undercut make a bold statement when combined with a vibrant eye shadow. To keep the short hairstyle sleek, try our Jamaican Black Castor Oil Edge Control (JBCO).

The lightweight formula doesn’t flake or build up, tames and slicks all hair types, and has actually been proven thicken and regrow hair!

JBCO Edge Control also works great when you do a short tight undercut, but leave enough length on the top to brush forward or down, for two distinctive looks. Or you could throw in some textured volume for a sweeping fierce look.

Going for All-Natural

For you ladies that prefer to highlight your natural curls, there are some fun options as well. Consider adding a new color to your kinky, curly hair that really makes you stand out. Just remember that coloring our natural curls takes a little more work to get just right.

If you’re going to stay with an all-natural look, consider going for layered curls. The layers add more volume, plus your hair dries more easily and naturally.

Protective styles take on a new twist this season too. Shorter box braids look great as variation on the classic bob. A lot of women are trying shorter versions of the crochet and yarn braids, sometimes with a color highlight.

Layered, all natural
If you’re choosing to keep your natural curls, spoil them with our new Perfect Coils Curling Jelly. It’s a natural blend of honey, JBCO, Rosemary and horsetail that’s great for defining your curls. It also detangles as it defines, saving you from the painful tugging with a brush or pick.

What’s more, it locks in the moisture for longer lasting curls, hold & shine without the crunch.
