3 Reasons Your Curls Are Not Popping

We’ve all been there before, where our curls aren’t popping like they use to.
We’re used to flourishing hair with the curls being defined, shiny, and sometimes even length. But sometimes along our hair journey, our hair gets stuck in a rut along the way. One of those ruts is a lack of curl pattern.

At Tailored Beauty, we know our customers have been through that phase or are currently going through.

So we’ve recommended 3 steps to revive your natural curl pattern:

1. Cleanse Your Scalp and Hair

Truth be told we do use a lot of hair products on our hair on a weekly basis. Whether we need to do a sleek bun to get us through the rest of the workweek. Or, we use products from different brands in our hair regimens. Or, we’re using products that serve no nutritional value to our hair strands. After a while, the product tends to build upon our scalp and hair. And yes we know that you have been cleansing your hair every week however some residue is still left on the hair. Products are being made with a combination of chemical and natural ingredients. Some of the chemicals may attach to the scalp and hair and cannot be removed by sampling cleansing the scalp. In addition, if you use your product religiously the chemicals will always have an opportunity to attach. Hence, we recommend cleansing your scalp and hair thoroughly with a good shampoo

A strong shampoo is able to remove the deepest layer of product build-up that has accumulated on our hair strands and scalp. It will leave your hair leaving extremely squeaky clean. Thus, giving the hair strands a clean slate to breathe and function normally. And as such we recommend the next step to revitalize them with some moisture lost while cleansing.

2. Deep Condition Your Hair

As a natural in 2020, there is no way that you should be missing out on deep conditioning your hair on a weekly basis. Deep conditioning does a lot for your hair, especially your curls. Most deep conditioners are made with natural ingredients that are rich in minerals that are great for your scalp and hair. However, they may contain a few chemicals however these are good for our hair. They aid in maintaining the moisture and protein levels of our hair. ll in all deep conditioners aid in reviving any loss of curl pattern because it is infusing the strand with moisture + protein. Both of which are needed for your curls to be in it’s healthiest state

When you are deep conditioning ensure to work in each product thoroughly into your hair strands from root to tip. This can be done using your Denman brush, praying hands method, or your wide-tooth comb. Then, follow the instructions on the product and leave it in for the recommended time. You can leave it in longer however manufacturers usually know what they are doing when they recommend a set time. Then, apply a heat cap on. The heat cap will allow for heat to be trapped beneath the cap so that the hair cuticles can open. This allows for more of the deep conditioners goodness to penetrate it.

3. Use A Natural Hair Gel

And finally, use a natural hair gel. You must be wondering why is this a step, well naturals why wouldn't it be? Why would you want to use a gel that contains chemicals that is not good for your hair? It only gives your curls life for a short time but not a long time. As much as it highlights the natural curl pattern, after a couple of days, your curls will feel stiff and dry. This is why most naturals use a very good moisturizer prior to their gel. However, after consistent use, you realize that your hair doesn’t curl like it uses to do as it can't curl without the gel. This is the sign to swap out your gel for a more natural alternative.
